Poster at the DEFLE

Isn't that nice. They've invited us.

Demonstration against the CPE (first work contract) Thursday 16 March, 11:30.

Come in large numbers.

The CPE is the law recently passed through parliament allowing young people to be taken on on a special two year contract during which time they can be dismissed for any reason. The government argues that if employers know they can lay people off they may take more people on.

I think they have been silly in restricting this to young people. After all, in Britain you can lay people off in the first two years without paying them redundancy money, whatever age they are. As it is, while trying to reduce youth unemployment they have alienated the youth they were trying to help.

Sorry about the photo. It was taken indoors at 8pm with my phone. Posted by Picasa
