One door shuts another opens

The house in Pessac (proche fac et trams) was sold last night. (Wot! On a Sunday?)

We're kind of OK with that, because it narrows the field down a little!

But we saw this one, in Villenave, near where we live now, but closer to the ring road and the supermarket. Their asking price is within our budget. The house would be a good family house, and probably quite cheap to run (double glazed, gas heating).

My only concern is that one bedroom has a very uneven floor. The owner says it was like that when they moved in and it's due to one of the joists twisting. The agent suggested I ask a joiner to have a look at it. All the beams and joists are exposed, so that shouldn't be too hard to ascertain. This afternoon I'll ring the bank about surveys, joiners, etc.

It looks rather nice to me. I can imagine Pat with leg irons on, chained to the stove, and can almost smell the boudain noir (excuse spelling) cooking, to be joined by the fried egg, bacon and mushrooms. Must go, I'm drooling all over the keyboard!

My question is - 'Ou est le microwave?! That is 'Where is the microwave?' (Sorry, my French is failed GCSE!) They probably ban microwave ovens in France don't they? Seeing as how they always do good home cooking and not the stuff that I produce. My method of cooking is freezer - microwave - table - voila! I'm sure Pat knows all about pastry making and home baking - chocolate cake - oooh, hmmm!

Au contraire, ma petite soeur, some of the houses we've seen don't even have conventional ovens - just these combination microwave jobbies that you need to read the instruction book for every time you turn the thing on. Pat does do a chocolate marble cake - with REAL marbles!

As a matter of interest, are the Landaise house in Villenave and the 'upside down' house also at Villenave still on the options list?

"Upside down house" still available. The agent phoned today to chase us up about it.

As far as I know the Landaise in Pessac is available.

I wrestle with both of those because they'd be great for holding meetings with quite large numbers of people - but to heat they'd be SO EXPENSIVE.

And of course, if we start a new church plant here it won't be in Pessac or Villenave, but in the city centre itself. So big space for meeting rooms may not be that relevant, frankly.

Also the "Upside down house", though we love that style of house, may need work on the heating and probably needs rewiring. Neither are double glazed. Both would be a nightmare to paint the windows.
