A minor catastrophe

Poor Catrin.

Soon after we moved here we took the children to the pet shop to get their promised guinea pigs. We returned with a rat and a gerbil. We later discovered the rat to be pregnant.

Anyway, one of the young rats died today, apparently from heat-stroke. It has been very hot indeed, and he doesn't appear to have drunk, though the water bottle was full and working and his companion is OK. By the time we got home he was, as they say in the restaurants here, à point. Catrin has been very brave. He died in her arms.

So "Designer Rat" has been buried with full rodent honours beneath Catrin's window. We dissuaded her from buying a replacement. After all she still has three females and one male.

(I know. Don't ask.)
