Gwilym's school report

He had a mixture of good and not so good marks.

I think he's got a science head, by the look of his results (sometimes 18.5/20 etc.). Art is another thing entirely..

Sometimes good marks in French, but his dictation mark is not brilliant.

But not bad for the start of his second year in France.

Well done Gwilym, stick to the academic subjects, you seem to be doing well there. I don't see the point in art, if you want to draw a straight line, use a ruler, if it's something else, take a photograph, unless of course, you are after Picasso's now vacant crown, in which case, save your paint!

Whatever, I agree with your old man, that's pretty good at the commencement of only your second year in France. Keep it up lad.

(Just as an afterthought, if you do think you can do something like Picasso and earn that sort of money, carry on and I'm quite prepared to be your agent!)

There's a sequel to this. The poor lad got a poor mark in conjugaison yesterday and was very upset.

No worries, son. La conjugaison takes time. I still mess it up incessantly, and I hear quite a few French people getting it wrong, too, from time to time.
