There must be more to this than is reported, surely ?

This can't be true, can it ?

Yes Alan, sadly it can be very true, this sort of 'freedom of religion' story is very common in Egypt, presenting many difficulties to Christians. Many Coptic Christians (I am informed by an Egyptian that 'Coptic' just means Egyptians; they consider themselves Copts and not Arabs) in Cairo live in a ghetto where they earn their living in an apparently appalling stench sorting rubbish which they take home from the municipal rubbish dumps to sort out. The 'freedom' granted to Egyptian Christians is such that they are very much second class citizens. It's such a shame, I like what I've seen of Egypt very much and generally like the Egyptians themselves, even the 'hastle' merchants in the sukhs.
