Fighting over it like dogs, they were

(This one's especially for Chris and AC..)

The session was about the spread of the French language through the world, and the lecturer had just said that part of the South-east of France used to belong to the King of Piedmont. He continued that it had come into France's possession when Napoleon III supported the King of Piedmont against the other dogs.

I thought, "The other dogs? A bit ... forceful, what!"

Slowly it dawned on me that while I had heard "the other dogs" les autres chiens, he had actually said "the Austrians", les autrichiens.

I enjoy these so much, I hope they never stop happening.
