Synode - where it all happens

You can see the new name on the screen and the leaflet for the new translation of the Institutes into modern French, referred to as the "bouquin de Calvin".

The chap on the right of the bottom photo is Eric Denimal, pastor of the Eglise Libre, ex-journalist and prolific author. His biography of Calvin came out recently and he's also the author of 'La Bible pour les nuls" (The Bible for dummies). Imagine - that book written by an evangelical is available in all kinds of bookshops and supermarkets all over the country !

Did I read correctly: the new translation of the Institutes in Modern French? One thing that has always been a problem for me is that I don't understand the current French edition, because of the language. I have resorted to reding it in modern English, sad for a French man. Can we have more info on that new publication?

Yes, it's a painful irony that it is MUCH harder for French people to read the institutes than for anglophones because there isn't a modern French version of the institutes. So it comes as no surprise that Emmanuel, franco-français though he be, finds the english edition easier to read than the french.

However your linguistic struggles will soon be over ! Paul Wells and someone else have completed a translation into modern french and it will soon be published at the price of 44€ (about £1500 the way the exchange rate is going). The publisher is (I think) XL6, but I don't know the publication date. There was a pre-publication offer at 35€ which had to be sent off today.

The Kitchen

 Our new apartment will be equipped with toilet and bathroom etc. but not with anything at all in the kitchen. Not even a sink. So we need to purchase a kitchen and engage a kitchen fitter.
