Berlioz Le Corsaire Overture John Barbirolli Halle Orchestra

Conductors conduct with a baton.

Les dirigeants dirigent avec une baguette.

It conjures up a nice image of a conductor waving his lunch around. Sir John Barbirolli, it appears, had a good appetite because he has an extra-long baguette.

That was of course, the late SIR John Barbirolli, or, as Cyril Fletcher had used to call him, Sir John Rubber Brolli. (That is, naturally enough, the LATE Cyril Fletcher, - just in case anyone else feels a desire to be picky too). Oh! And please don't ask what they were late for.

Might I also commend the item on the strip at the completion where he discusses the (sadly) late Jacquiline du Pre and we get to see and hear just a little of her playing?
