Wasn't the whole thing inexpressibly wonderful? I was listening on the car radio as news came in that some of them had been brought to the surface. As a miner's son myself it was also quite remarkable to hear a national president say that his country cherished its miners. I couldn't help but think back to the way things were in the UK in the 1980's.
