Eastervents

began on Maundy Thursday with a meeting at FAC (held at FAC to avoid telling folks that there was no FAC Bible Study and to enable them to come along). It was based around a series of paintings by an unknown artist that Dik had found on the internet some years ago. Dik was interested by the way that various characters were depicted and he attached Bible verses to the pictures.

Good Friday evening found us at church for a kind of prayer and praise time - Good Friday hymns and songs were interspersed with prayers and with the Lord's Supper.

Saturday evening it was the turn of the anglophones, with a barbecue followed by a short message from Isaiah 53. It was good to see new faces as regulars brought their friends.

Sunday morning I was preaching at Anglade, so I dropped off the family at Cenon and hightailed it north with Rhys, trusty pianist ! The family meanwhile were with a small gang singing in the streets round the church. At Anglade we were almost 20 people, and the message was from Matthew 28 - the two great events that changed the world.

Sunday evening and the English service I preached the same message but in English. By now I had given up counting people but someone said we were about 30, and again there were new faces, people having brought their friends. One couple came because they want me to marry them. We'll meet up to talk ! For me the message went better in French than in English. I'll have to ask Rhys what he thought.

Easter Monday began after lunch ! Gwilym left with his friend Pierre to skateboard round Bordeaux. We that remained took the 4 down to the Chartrons and walked round the quais, up Quinconces, to MacDonalds for a milkshake, then up to Virgin Megastore (the only bookshop we found open) where Catrin wanted to buy a book. They have piles of bargain DVDs - only 10 euros ! (That's cheap for France). Then the 4 home again.

Gwilym was invited to eat out with Pierre and his family, so we ordered in a couple of pizzas - Duck and mushroom and Tastes of the Orient. Delicious, and they arrived on time almost to the second !
