Chose promise, chose due

I told the Griffins that I'd blogue about their car.

The Griffins' arrival in France three years ago coincided with the departure of a young lady from the Bordeaux area. She had her father's old car and needed to get rid of it so she sold it to the Griffins, not for a king's ransom it must be said. It's a 1998 Peugeot 405 estate diesel, a very good car when new but it has not been new for some time now, it has seen many of France's kilometers and much better days.

In these past three years the Griffins have replaced most of its moving parts, generally out of dire necessity - the car has a very unnerving habit of suddenly going on strike and demanding reparations.

Anyway, you will realise that our dear friends are leaving Bordeaux for the UK in just a few weeks time.
We considered taking on their car as a second car.

We considered it briefly.

I didn't even get as far as phoning the insurance for a quote.

Instead Ben is going to offer it to the mechanic who has replaced almost all the moving parts. If he isn't interested then we'll try and sell it for them for whatever we can get.

I think it is 1993, in fact I'll just check...even better, it's a 1992. so not too bad for nearly 20 years old. it all works well except the horn, the brakes, the radio, the fuel gauge, the rev counter, the fog lights, the door handle, the locks (or lack of them)and the tear on the drivers seat. The oil leak, the radiator leak, the corrosion to the back doors which mean sometimes they don't close, the dent to the front wing which means that I can't open the drivers door fully, and the crack to the back bumper. Any one interested?

I think I have already mentioned that while in the UK people generally find a private teacher for their instrument, or do it through a school scheme, here there are municipal music school, conservatoires and so on. The situation is a little more complex than I had first understood, because the schools vary in the rigidity of their organisation: the most, the conservatoires, next the municipals, then the associations. The Kitchen

 Our new apartment will be equipped with toilet and bathroom etc. but not with anything at all in the kitchen. Not even a sink. So we need to purchase a kitchen and engage a kitchen fitter. A friend who knows how to fit kitchens suggested buying an Ikea kitchen. "They're guaranteed twenty years and they honour their guarantee", he said. "I've proved it". Well I don't know any other kitchen laces in France, and I can't imagine there's much that's cheaper than Ikea, so I was happy to accept his advice.
